Our Mission

CPC exists to make disciples who love Christ, his Word and his Church through the ordinary means of grace.

Core Principles

We believe that if we focus on three biblical concepts, we will make disciples. Those concepts are the gospel, community, and mission.

Gospel: We believe that we come to faith through the preaching of the gospel- the good news that while we are great sinners, Jesus is a Greater Savior who purchased our forgiveness at the cross. He lived the perfect life we should live before God, and died the death we deserved to die. Faith and trust in him alone makes us right with God and secures our adoption as his children.

However, we also believe that we come back to the gospel to grow in Christ. As Dr. Tim Keller has said, “The gospel isn’t the ABC’s of Christianity, it’s the A to Z of Christianity.” So, we grow in learning how the gospel applies to all facets of life: work, marriage, parenting, conflict, suffering, etc.

Community: There are at least 90 commands in the Bible telling how to act towards “one another.” Most of the Bible is written to communities and not individuals. Simply put, we need to live life in & supporting a local church community to live a biblical life. So, we seek to do life together, building a community that reflects the love, grace, mercy, forgiveness, and conviction that Christ offers.

Mission: The call to preach the gospel to the nations didn’t begin at the Great Commission- It began with the promise in Genesis 3:15. As such, God’s mission of salvation is a major thread running throughout all of Scripture. Further, part of our new identity in Christ is that we are his missionaries (John 20:21). We live life together on mission for Jesus (John 13:34).

Our Story

In early 1991, a group of approximately 650 people left our former Presbyterian denomination to start a Presbyterian church dedicated to the inerrancy of scripture, salvation through Jesus Christ alone, and reformed theology. Our first service was Easter morning 1991 in a rented middle school. After several temporary locations in the 1990s and earlier this century, the Lord blessed us with an approximately 20 acre current campus on I-10 in west Houston. The current location is now a base from which we attempt to reach people locally and across the world for Christ.

FAQ

Services are held in the Sanctuary, which is to your right as you come in the main entrance. Our Sunday School wing and children’s areas will be to your left. If you’ve got middle or high schoolers, they will meet for Sunday School in The Barn, an incredibly fun space located at the back of our campus. Feel free to ask a greeter at the door if you need directions- they want to help!

We have plenty of parking on our campus. If you’re a young family or have limited mobility, you can use our drop off at the main entrance, or park in our visitor parking area. Directions to CPC

At CPC, you’ll find there is no real dress code. You’ll find people from all walks of life and in various attire. You’ll find everything from suits and dresses, t-shirts & jeans, and everything in between. You’re welcomed & wanted, regardless of what you wear!

We’ve got you covered- from a Nursing Mom’s Room, Nursery, Preschool, to various Grade School areas, your child has a place here. We trust parents to make the call as to whether their children are ready to participate in corporate worship, or to receive a lesson during Children’s Church. During our Sunday School hour (10:00-10:45am), we also have Sunday School for your kids as well. Be sure to learn more about our Children’s Ministry and Student Ministry.

We worship God & strengthen our faith by singing, praying, confessing sin & receiving assurance of our forgiveness, but especially- we hear God’s Word preached. We place a high value on preaching that explains the text, shows us how to live & what to believe, yet ultimately points us to who Jesus is and what he’s done for us! When we sing, we praise God through a mixture of old hymns and newer songs.

Yes, we have those- they’re called City Groups. Our City Groups are places not just for fellowship, but we work hard to make them places where our lives change, we build community, and we embark on Christ’s mission together. You can learn more about them here: City Groups.

Yes! We’re actually quite proud of our adult education program- not only do our pastors teach various Sunday School courses, but we also have many non-pastoral Sunday School teachers who have seminary degrees. With those kinds of resources, we’d be crazy not to go “old school” and offer something that deepens your relationship with Jesus! Come and join us from 10:00 to 10:45 am. You can attend worship at the service before or after. Learn more: Sunday School

Our 3 main means of making disciples are: Sunday Worship, City Groups, and Sunday School. However, we do have age- & gender-specific ministries. Just click on Ministries above see where you or the rest of your family fits in!

We’re affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in AmericaThe Gospel CoalitionRedeemer City To City,  among other organizations. You can see information about many ministries that we support both locally and globally here: Missions.
