SUMMARY:Handel's Messiah
DESCRIPTION:The Concert Choir & Orchestra\, along with special guest soloists\, present Handel’s Messiah at 8 pm December 11\, 12 & 13\, 2025. \nFree general admission tickets will be available at 7 pm each evening for that evening’s performance. Please arrive early to claim your free tickets distributed on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nAs our twenty-first season unfolds\, we anticipate yet another wonderful experience for the Christmas season. The CPC choir and orchestra and special guest soloists will once again delight you with this special masterwork. Please join us for Handel’s Messiah\, which has become a wonderful tradition here at Christ Presbyterian Church in Houston. \nThis year’s Messiah performances feature our 17th century Flemish harpsichord once again. This authentic Flemish style single manual instrument after Ruckers as designed by Marc Ducornet with all parts and materials from Atelier Marc Ducornet in Paris\, was custom built by Gerald Self. \nIt is an honor to be able to present this wonderful masterwork. We hope our performances of Messiah continue to be a favorite Christmas tradition for many more people in our community. “For unto us a Child is born\, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful\, Counselor\, The Mighty\, God\, The Everlasting Father\, The Prince Of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). \nLearn more: Music & Worship

SUMMARY:Marriage Conference
DESCRIPTION:Whether you’re single\, dating\, engaged\, or married\, please join us Friday evening\, January 23\, and Saturday morning\, January 24\, for our 2026 Shaped by the Gospel Marriage Conference. Chad and Emily Van Dixhoorn have written a wonderfully Christ-centered and practical book on the topic of marriage. Over three talks and Q&A sessions\, we will think through biblical truths about marriage to help singles and couples be more thoughtful and prayerful in their relationships. \nShaped by the Gospel\nThe institution of marriage is part of God’s design for creation and a key part of the life of a Christian community. Healthy Christian marriages offer blessings to the whole church. In this conference we consider how marriage can be shaped by the gospel\, and how in marriage we can offer grace to sinners to live like saints. \nSchedule:\nFriday\, January 23\, 7:30-8:30 pm. Doors open at 7 pm\, and refreshments will be provided.\nSaturday\, January 24\, 9:30-11:45 am. If you would like to join us for a light breakfast and fellowship on Saturday\, doors will be open at 8:45 am.\n \nCost:\n$50/couple\, $35/individual \nChildcare:\nChildcare for children in 5th grade and younger is available. \nRegister for Conference\n \n\n  \nAbout Our Speakers\, Chad and Emily Van Dixhoorn\nDr. Van Dixhoorn is Professor of Church History and Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary\, Charlotte. A leading expert on the work of the Westminster Assembly\, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society in recognition of his five-volume work The Minutes and Papers of the Westminster Assembly\, 1643-1653 (Oxford University Press). He is currently working on a major monograph on the Westminster Assembly\, having recently completed an edition of John Lightfoot’s journals\, published with Oxford University Press. \nAfter receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge\, Dr. Van Dixhoorn was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship from the British Academy. He also studied at Westminster Theological Seminary (MDiv\, ThM) and Huron College\, The University of Western Ontario (B.A.). He was a member of the Faculty of History of the University of Cambridge and held two fellowships at Wolfson College\, Cambridge. Since 2013\, Dr. Van Dixhoorn has also served as an honorary research fellow at the University of East Anglia in the U.K.\, and since 2023 as an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto. \nOrdained in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church\, Dr. Van Dixhoorn has served as a pastor at Cambridge Presbyterian Church in the U.K. and at Grace Presbyterian Church in Vienna\, VA. \nMrs. Emily Van Dixhoorn (MAR Westminster Theological Seminary) loves Bible study and prayer\, especially when shared with others. She regularly speaks at women’s retreats and marriage conferences. Mrs. Van Dixhoorn is the author of Confessing the Faith Study Guide\, a companion to her husband Chad Van Dixhoorn’s commentary on the Westminster Confession of Faith. She and her husband co-authored Gospel Shaped Marriage: Grace for Sinners to Love like Saints. They regularly welcome people into their home of happy chaos. Emily and Chad have five children ages 13-25 and one son-in-law. For fun\, Emily plays tennis\, teaches math\, and walks their dog.

SUMMARY:Holy Week and Easter
DESCRIPTION:Please join the family of Christ Presbyterian Church for our Holy Week worship services and events. \nPalm Sunday | March 29\n8:30 am Worship Service\n10:00-10:50 am Sunday School\n11:00 am Worship Service\n12:15 pm Palm Sunday Picnic\n(Please sign up at the link above for the Palm Sunday Picnic.)\n \nChildren of all ages are invited to process in with palms and sing a hymn at the beginning of the 11:00 worship service. \n  \nMaundy Thursday | April 2\n7:00 pm Worship Service & Communion\nMaundy comes from the Latin word mandatum\, which is the first word of the phrase “A new commandment I give unto you\, that you love one another\, as I have loved you\,” spoken by Jesus to his disciples in the upper room. \nThis is a full worship service with communion\, as we remember Jesus sharing the Last Supper with his disciples before his betrayal\, arrest\, and crucifixion.\n\nChildcare for kindergarten and younger will be provided. \n  \nGood Friday | April 3\n7:00 pm Tenebrae Service\nBefore there was the bright glow of Easter\, there was darkening…a time when events and situations worked deviously to a glorious end; a time when Jesus’ disciples were confounded and confused\, when the darkness seemed to win. And yet\, during those days…even then…God the Father worked his will. \nThe church has observed this service of Tenebrae (Latin meaning the darkening) in some form since the 12th century. This quiet service of word and song acknowledges\, once again\, the love that Jesus has for us and what he would subject himself to for our benefit.\n\nChildcare for kindergarten and younger will be provided. \n  \nEaster Sunday | April 5\n7:00 am Sunrise Service in the Chapel\n9:00 am Worship Service in the Sanctuary\n11:00 am Worship Service in the Sanctuary\n\nThere will be no Sunday School on Easter Sunday. Children’s Church will be held at the 9 & 11 am services. \n  \nEaster Monday | April 6\nThe church office will be closed Monday\, April 6.

SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday Worship
DESCRIPTION:7:00 pm Maundy Thursday Worship & Communion \nMaundy comes from the Latin word mandatum\, which is the first word of the phrase “A new commandment I give unto you\, that you love one another\, as I have loved you\,” spoken by Jesus to his disciples in the upper room. \nThis is a full worship service with communion\, as we remember Jesus sharing the Last Supper with his disciples before his betrayal\, arrest\, and crucifixion. \nChildcare for kindergarten and younger will be provided.

SUMMARY:Good Friday Tenebrae Service
DESCRIPTION:7:00 pm Good Friday Tenebrae Service\nBefore there was the bright glow of Easter\, there was darkening…a time when events and situations worked deviously to a glorious end; a time when Jesus’ disciples were confounded and confused\, when the darkness seemed to win.
